Fighting poverty. Since graduating from Temple, Charity R. Tucker, FOX ’16, has taken roles with the city of Philadelphia and the nonprofit Urban League of Philadelphia, strengthening the city’s workforce and connecting vulnerable Philadelphians to life-changing jobs.

Everyone worthy of work. As director of workforce planning and development for the Urban League, Charity organizes job fairs and administers training programs across a range of demographics, from teaching at-risk youth valuable tech skills, to finding work for everyday Philadelphians, to connecting those formerly incarcerated with quality jobs. In one particularly rewarding instance, a judge granted leniency to an individual based on his enrollment in Urban League programming, allowing him to fruitfully reenter society.

Working in City Hall, Charity began in the Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations, negotiating contracts, resolving disputes and training city managers. She later led citywide recruitment, streamlining hiring and advancing diversity. Her workforce development efforts have shaped Philadelphia’s public sector, empowering diverse leaders for transformative service.

Charity’s journey at Temple University was shaped by scholarship, service and community. As an undergraduate, she worked with the Career Center and Human Resources, organizing job fairs that connected thousands to opportunities. At Temple Telefund, her leadership helped raise more than $78,000 for scholarships, solidifying her legacy as a champion for career readiness and student success.

“In high school I went to a scholarship event on Temple’s campus. Even though I grew up in Philadelphia it was my first time, and I just fell in love. They also offered me a great financial aid package and Temple became my first choice.”

Staying connected with her alma mater, Charity serves as director at large on the Fox School of Business Alumni Association board, leading development initiatives and mentoring current students and alumni.

What’s in a name? That Charity’s name matches her vocation is no coincidence. The daughter of a Baptist minister, she has five sisters—Faith, Hope, Joy, Grace and Glory. Through her organization iBrandLinks LLC, Charity organizes career fairs for her native West Philly and surrounding areas. And after losing her sister Hope to leukemia at age 23, Charity and her family run a nonprofit, Hope for Hope, started by her late sister with a mission to support cancer patients and their families.
