Widening the scope. A large part of Andrea’s job is helping companies’ internal accounting or sustainability departments create systems to track their “Scope 1” and “Scope 2” emissions: the total amount of greenhouse gases they directly release to the atmosphere, or those they cause to be released elsewhere, such as at a power plant. But Andrea is also preparing for even more difficult accounting to come under “Scope 3,” which will measure all value chain emissions, such as employee commuting or disposal of sold products.
Andrea grew up in Pennsylvania Dutch country, where it wasn’t uncommon to see a horse and buggy riding by on Sundays. Also a big college sports fan, she was attracted to Temple for the change in pace of big city life and opportunities to cheer on Division I athletic teams. But the green fields and starry skies of her youth stayed with her and inspired her interest in environmentalism.
Wanting to see the world, Andrea enrolled as an international business major and studied abroad at the Temple Japan Campus in Tokyo sophomore year. But she switched to management information systems after developing an interest in technology and realizing it would set her up for a career in consulting and traveling. A business ethics class with Fox Associate Professor Lynne Andersson senior year also solidified her interest in environmental stewardship.
Music to her ears. A lifelong musician, Andrea also spent all four years in the Diamond Marching Band, playing the piccolo while traveling to major Temple football and basketball games in destinations like St. Petersburg, Florida, and Shreveport, Louisiana.
Andrea first connected to EY when a recruiter for the company and Temple alum visited a meeting of the Temple chapter of the Association for Information Systems. That led to a summer internship and a job offer right after graduation.
