At the leading edge of innovation is where Devarshi Brahmbhatt, PHR ’18, operates. For the past five years, Devarshi has conducted research at the molecular level for Brooklyn-based biotech startup Calder Biosciences, pioneering new techniques to create more potent vaccines for RSV and other infectious diseases. In late 2024, he took on a new role as a scientist with ProBio, a New Jersey-based company offering services ranging from drug discovery to commercialization for cell and gene therapy solutions with potential applications for a wide range of human diseases.

Growing up in Western India, Devarshi excelled in science and mathematics. After witnessing genetic conditions in society, he was inspired to apply his gifts within pharmaceuticals, where he might develop new treatments that could help people around the world. Once he earned his pharmacy degree in his native country, he set his eyes on further studies in the United States due to its reputation as a world leader in health innovation.

Target: TU. Devarshi applied to and received acceptance at several schools but was initially rejected from Temple. Not to be deterred, he decided to polish his application and try again. He was attracted to Temple for its highly regarded pharmaceutical sciences program and location in the Delaware Valley, where there is a concentration of biotech companies. The second time he was successful.

“Temple was a great opportunity that enabled me to connect to industry professionals and meet supportive professors who helped me secure a job in the biotech industry.”

At Temple’s Fort Washington campus, where the School of Pharmacy’s regulatory affairs and quality assurance (RAQA) graduate program is located, Devarshi found the edge he was looking for. Wendy Lebing, assistant dean for RAQA, became a trusted mentor, organizing networking events for Devarshi and other students to meet corporate recruiters. And David Lebo, professor of pharmaceutical sciences, helped Devarshi address a skill gap on his resume by inviting him into his lab for training.

Moxie and medicine. Today, with a range of industry experience in hand, Devarshi has enrolled in an online MBA program. One day, he aims to launch his own startup company, realizing the dreams of his youth to directly create world-changing medicines.
