A host from coast to coast. Many aspiring radio personalities dream of having a nationally syndicated show with their name on it. For Zach Gelb, KLN ’16, the dream has come true. Since 2020, Zach has hosted The Zach Gelb Show, a daily, three-hour sports talk show broadcast on 150 radio stations across the country, Sirius XM and on digital apps through radio platform Audacy.

Growing up on Long Island ... Zach would beg his parents to skip school and head into New York City with his father, a producer and salesman at WFAN, a top sports talk radio station in the city. One day, an 8-year-old Zach, who grew up a New England Patriots fan, went on air in a Tom Brady jersey to “talk smack” to a pair of die-hard New York hosts. “It was a cute little radio bit ... but on the way back to Long Island I told my dad, ‘That’s what I want to do for a living.’”

A radio wunderkind. By high school Zach was producing his own digital sports program out of his basement and landing guests like Superbowl-winning tight end Rob Gronkowski.

“My internship with local legend Angelo Cataldi taught me that to do this job you have to have passion, opinion and knowledge. And be entertaining. He really taught me how to entertain.”

WHIPped into shape. A key mentor for Zach was John DiCarlo, managing director of the Claire Smith Center for Sports Media and longtime faculty leader of Temple’s WHIP Radio, where Zach quickly rose through the ranks, covering Temple football and basketball games and landing big name guests for a daily talk show.

Being in Philly ... set Zach up for future success. As a junior, he’d rise at 3:30 a.m. to head to an internship with sports station 94.1 WIP, where he learned from local sports talk radio great Angelo Cataldi. Later in his professional career, Zach also landed a gig at the city’s other sports talk station, 97.5 The Fanatic, hosting a post-game show covering the Eagles during their Superbowl-winning campaign.
