Hometown: Saigon, Vietnam
Current Job Title: Senior director of communications
Current Employer: Visit Philadelphia

When national news reporters come calling in Philadelphia, Binh Nguyen, KLN ’17, is the one who answers. At Visit Philadelphia, the region’s official tourism marketing agency, Binh acts as the city’s ultimate concierge, connecting journalists and media figures with the best Philly has to offer—be it award-winning restaurants, world-class museums or historical landmarks. Her efforts have helped the city land glowing profiles in outlets such as The New York Times, USA Today and Condé Nast Traveler.

Growing up in a small Pennsylvania town as the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, Binh came to Temple to expand her horizons. There, she quickly made her mark. As vice president of Temple Student Government, Binh attended Board of Trustees meetings and rubbed elbows with other movers and shakers, expanding her professional network while championing student voices.

Living in the city also gave Binh access to a wealth of media and public relations internships. Fellow Owl Dave Silver, KLN ’13, helped her get a start at REC Philly, a company he founded to support local creatives. That in turn led to internships with notable PR firms Tierney and Flackable, where Binh landed her first job out of college.

Breaking out on her own. After several years handling PR at Flackable, where she rose to be the firm’s first account supervisor, Binh traveled the globe and lived in Berlin while consulting for a range of clients. Her adventures eventually led her to Visit Philadelphia, where she met Angela Val, the organization’s CEO.

Coming home. Val encouraged Binh to return to the city and take the job with Visit Philadelphia. Life abroad was plum, she says, but a chance to work alongside another trailblazing woman of color to prepare the city for America’s 250th birthday and FIFA World Cup in 2026 was a dream worth coming home for.

“You get a historic feeling in Philadelphia that you don’t get in a lot of other places, especially in the United States. Democracy was born here. Thought leadership was born here. Now the city has evolved into a hub of culture, art and food—we have the best food scene in the country!”
